Link building Strategy for Beginners. How to find free link building opportunities….

Creating a large number of back links to your site is one way in which you can help to propel your website up the search engine rankings.  The greater the number of links you have the better. In order to really profit from the linking process, your best bet is to set-up links that originate in anchor text, ideally from external higly relevant and quality sites, as that will help to improve the relevancy and exposure of  your site for the targeted keyword phrases.

Free link building opportunities can help you to achieve the goal of a higher search engine ranking, so I’ve put together an overview of some of the most popular techniques available:

1. Forum posts - Posting links via forums can be done in two ways. Firstly, you could include a link to your site as part of your signature. This will mean that every time you leave a comment on a forum, your signature will automatically be attached, and when clicked it will link back to your site.  The second option is to post a link within the comment that you leave on the site. If you chose to adopt this technique, then do so in moderation, as leaving too many comments with your link contained could be seen as spamming. Remember, that the goal in the linking is to boost your search engine ranking, so pick forums which are relevant to your products and services to place your links.

2. Blog comments – If you want to increase the number of back links you have, this can be done by leaving comments on blogs. You should apply much the same principles that you would with forum posts either using an autosignature or linking URL in the comment you make on the blog post. Make sure you make relevant and valuable contributions with the blog comments, don’t place numerous links in and within every comment, as this will lead to you getting listed as a spammer and ejected from the blog. You can start by replying to this blog post.

3. Article directories – Placing informative articles in directories is another way to increase the number of links to your site and boost search ranking. There are a number of free article directories around, so if you have something to share, it could be either a relevant piece of news, business promotion, some positive PR you’ve had, these are all great ways to create a buzz for your product or service. An added bonus which some article directories mostly paid directories, will allow you to increase the number of links to your site which originate from relevant anchor text.

Tip: Here are a few of the best FREE article directories as a starting point: 1) http://www.thefreelibrary.com 2) http://ezinearticles.com/about.html      3) http://www.articlecity.com/ 4) http://www.articlestreet.com/

4. Tweets – If you have a Twitter account, then you may look at placing links on Twitter as part of (tweets) with a snippet of information and using the link to direct people to your website.  This is one way of building back links, but the downside to this is that it can be difficult to fit long bits of information along with a link URLs into a short tweet. Once you have placed a twitter post online, your aim should be to get others re-tweeting, which will increase the number of back links you have. You need to create Tweets that are relevant and interesting so that you increase the chances that other users will re-post the Tweets you have written.

Tip: If you find when placing your website URl into tweets is taking you over the twitter word limit why not you URL shortening sites such as:  1)     http://bit.ly/ or         2)    http://tinyurl.com/

Once you have a gained a basic understanding of the options and techniques available for free link building, you’ll begin to apply a bit of imagination. Making good use of these techniques will put you on the right track to increasing your backlinks and boosting your page rank in no time.
