GAP stands for Google Adwords Professional and you can earn it by passing the GAP exam. The purpose of the exam is twofold. On one hand it should encourage Adwords users to learn and then use as much as possible from the possibilities of Adwords. On the other hand it certifies to clients that the person who has passed this exam knows the intricacies of Google Adwords.
In order to prepare for the exam, Google created an extensive learning material which you can access through their Adwords Learning Center. It offers lessons that cover all aspects of Adwords. It starts with the basics, like how to set up an account, how to start a campaign and later elaborates on more sophisticated topics, such as campaign optimization or Adwords integration with Google Analytics.
Each lesson can be digested either in text or audiovisual format. At the end of each lesson, there is a short quiz to give you feedback how well you learned the material. If you gave an incorrect answer, it not only highlights it but also shows you the right answer. The lesson-end quizzes mimic the style of the exam so you can expect similar questions there.
When I first heard that you need to take the exam online, I was wondering how do they avoid cheating? I mean people have all the necessary tools at their disposal: a computer with internet access, so they can cheat as much as they wanted. But a friend of mine, who passed the exam already, said that there are so many questions that you just don’t have the time to cheat. There are more than 100 questions to answer and the allocated time is only 90 minutes, so you just don’t have the time to use anything else but your brain
Once you’ve passed the exam, you can sit back and relax and put a link on your website that leads to a page at Google that certifies that you have, indeed, passed the exam, however, to force you to keep up, you need to retake the exam every year to prove that you still know what you are talking about.
So stay tuned, subscribe to our blog and figure out whether I will be able to be pass the exam and join the renowned crew of Contextured in glory or will I have to hang my head in shame and resit.
